Hollywood may celebrate its movie stars, but Frankston has its own plan to honour heroes much closer to home with nominations now open for the 2007 Star Zone Karingal Walk of Fame, an initiative developed by Centro Properties Group to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of ordinary people who have helped the local community.
Nominations open today and Frankston residents have until Friday 24 August to enter. Entry forms are available through the Frankston Standard Leader, and at Centro Karingal, Star Zone Karingal, and Frankston City Council Chambers, and can be downloaded from the link below.

Launched last year, the Star Zone Karingal Walk of Fame saw six successful nominees inducted including: Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, AC, DBE; Tom Newman OAM, founder of Neighbourhood Watch Australia; Bev Le Bas founder of Frankston Toy Library and chairman of the Teenagers Road Accident Group, Terry House.
Inductees to the 2007 Star Zone Karingal Walk of Fame will have their name permanently embedded in a star in the 'Hollywood style' Walk of Fame at a special gala ceremony at Centro Karingal's leisure and entertainment precinct.
"The 2007 Star Zone Karingal Walk of Fame provides Frankston residents with the opportunity to celebrate their outstanding achievements in true Tinsletown style. This year, up to eight residents will be recognised with their names on stars," said Jaimie McDonald, Marketing Manager, Star Zone Karingal.
For the first time, the 2007 Star Zone Karingal Walk of Fame will also celebrate outstanding sporting achievements. Frankston residents can also nominate outstanding achievements in categories including young achievers (for people under 25 years), local heroes (for people over 25 years), group initiatives.
"The Walk of Fame is a beautiful gesture, which acknowledges the generous work and outstanding achievements of these remarkable people," said Frankston City Mayor Councillor Glenn Aitken who is also a 2007 Star Zone Karingal Walk of Fame judge.
Cr Aitken is joined on the judging panel by editor of the Frankston Standard Leader, Andrea Kellett, and Star Zone's Jaimie McDonald. Winners from each category will be announced at an official ceremony to unveil the 2007 Star Zone Karingal Walk of Fame on Saturday 6 October 2007.
