Frankston will become the new home of the St Kilda Football Club. The club plans to establish a $10.25 million, state-of-the-art training and administration headquarters at Frankston Park in time for the 2010 AFL season.

Mayor of the day, Glenn Aitken described it an enormous coup for the City and the local community. "It is a very powerful affirmation of all the work we are doing to make Frankston one of the most liveable places in metropolitan Melbourne."

A key factor in St Kilda's partnership with Frankston is the development of significant community program. It will see the Club and Council work together to support business development and tourism initiatives, player ambassador program, as well as being involved in programs to address graffiti management and social issues such as drugs and alcohol.

The community can also expect to access the new facilities, including a multi-purpose sports hall, and aquatic rehabilitation facilities.

Local boy and St Kilda stalwart Robert Harvey said he was "rapt for the peninsula". "I know how much they love their footy and I know how many St Kilda supporters there are here."

Jay McGrath, president of the Frankston Dolphins Football Club said the club was looking forward to working with St Kilda. "No doubt this a major decision for St Kilda and we are happy to support them in their move and welcome them to the best location in the country."
