Who we are What we do Key Performance Indicators
We provide a range of environmental advice, policies, operational services and programs to Council to improve our environmental performance and to assist the community to reduce their environmental footprint.
We work with the community to protect and enhance the "community forest" and the remaining indigenous flora and fauna of the municipality.
  • Develop environmental policy, strategies, plans and provision of environmental advice, information and community programs
  • Plans and programs to conserve water and energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for climate change, reduce waste and litter, improve water quality in streams, support the uptake of ecologically sustainable designs in buildings and greening businesses
  • Maintain over 55,000 street trees and trees in parks, administering the Tree Protection Local Law, delivery of programs and plans to enhance indigenous biodiversity including flora and fauna surveys, work with 16 Friends groups and provide environmental advice on over 250 planning applications per year
  • 28,462 (53 per cent) properties participating in Council's green waste recycling service
  • 12,613.12 tonnes of green waste collected
  • 53,275 green waste bins
  • 23,471.7 tonnes of waste to landfill
  • 55.44 per cent of waste recycled
  • 16,381.04 tonnes of recycling collected
  • 17.19 per cent Eco Buy green purchasing (percentage of total spending)

Infrastructure

We are a team of engineers, technical officers and support staff engaged in the planning, construction, maintenance and renewal/disposal of physical infrastructure assets - roads, drains, facilities, parks - which are needed to support the delivery of a wide range of services to the community.
  • Provide traffic management solutions, strategic transportation planning, road safety programs; quality control on subdivisional developments; building and facility maintenance, cleaning and security
  • Asset Management Policy, Strategy and Plans; inventory and analysis of Council's physical assets data; develops the Capital Works Program and reports on program delivery
  • Provide project and contract management for the design and construction of infrastructure projects in the Annual Capital Works Program
  • $30,245,169 capital works expenditure
  • 78 per cent of capital works completed

 


Parks and Leisure

We are a multi disciplinary team that manages the strategic direction, facility development and on-ground maintenance for parks, reserves and recreational facilities
  • Manage two aquatic facilities and a golf course
  • Responsible for in-house capital works projects including playgrounds and park upgrades
  • Responsible for the maintenance and development of foreshore and natural
    reserves, and the maintenance and management of parks reserves
  • Provide strategic planning and implement opportunities for active and passive recreation
  • Maintained 85 playgrounds, sporting reserves and neighbourhood parks

Physical Services

We provide effective civil infrastructure maintenance (including road, drainage and street sweeping), CAA maintenance, neighbourhood shopping centre maintenance, emergency management, fleet and waste management services to ensure a well maintained, clean and attractive city.
  • Maintain 700km of roads and 874km of footpaths
  • Maintain the entire drainage network
  • Maintain 105 vehicles and 67 heavy plant items
  • Collect 53,000 waste bins weekly, 53,000 recycling bins fortnightly and
    29,000 garden waste bins fortnightly
